Trip Itinerary

Our 14 day trip will see us explore the eastern islands of Indonesia. We’ll get out of the touristy areas of Bali and discover parts of Indonesia that many never venture to. We have a wonderful itinerary planned to ensure a mix of activities that will create wonderful learning opportunities, quality family time, and loads of fun, all while enjoying time with like-minded people who share a love of travel and educating their children through Worldschooling. Below we share with you our proposed itinerary:

Trip Itinerary

Our 14 day trip will see us explore the eastern islands of Indonesia. We’ll get out of the touristy areas of Bali and discover parts of Indonesia that many never venture to. We have a wonderful itinerary planned to ensure a mix of activities that will create wonderful learning opportunities, quality family time, and loads of fun, all while enjoying time with like-minded people who share a love of travel and educating their children through Worldschooling. Below we share with you our proposed itinerary:

OVERLAND TOUR

DAY 1

Guests will arrive in Maumere, Indonesia and be met by a local guide who will transport them to our accommodation. The afternoon will be freetime, allowing Guests to explore Maumere and enjoy time getting to know each other.

We will celebrate the beginning of the trip with an evening meal.

DAY 2

Guests will board a coach and drive to Moni, a small village on the slope of Kelimutu Lake. We will stop along the way to learn about the traditional way of life and watch Ikat weaving by local women. We will travel to Koka Beach for swimming and relaxation, followed by a visit to Jopu, a traditional house of the Ende lioness tribe. We will stay in Moni village and enjoy dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3

An early morning drive up to the top of Mount Kelimutu to see the wonderful tri-colored lake. Weather permitting Guests will enjoy a beautiful sunrise from the mountain top. We will return to Moni to enjoy breakfast before continuing on to Riung. We will stop at Nanga Penda Beach (blue stone beach) before continuing on to Mbay to learn about rice field irrigation. We will enjoy an afternoon in Riung village where will stay for the evening.

DAY 4

After a delicious breakfast Guests will transfer to the harbor and travel by boat to witness Flying Foxes in their natural environment. From there we will continue on to Kotong Island and enjoy snorkelling, swimming or relaxation on the beach. In the afternoon we will travel to Soa Hot Spring and enjoy an afternoon of bathing and skin therapy. We will then drive to Bajawa where we will spend the night.

DAY 5

Today we travel to the traditional village of Bena, the largest of 9 traditional villages in Bajawato where we will view their megalithic stones and hand weaving. We will then drive to the Aimere district, where locals make ARAK, a strong alcoholic drink, similar to moonshine. We will then continue to Ruteng and after lunch travel to Ruteng Pu’u to see traditional houses of the Manggaraian people.

DAY 6

We begin our day by travelling to the south part of the Lembor district. On the way we will stop at Cara village to see the spider web rice field called Lingko. From there we will travel to Lembor and see the biggest rice field irrigation in the province. You will enjoy lunch before driving on to Culu and then on to Labuan Bajo where we will enjoy a beautiful sunset and dinner.

DAY 7

Today is a day of rest and relaxation. A chance to explore the quaint town of Labaun Bajo. Enjoy a meal, swim in a local pool, explore the local markets or wander the lovely shops along the main road. There is plenty to see in Labaun Bajo. The local people are just lovely and enjoy helping you in any way they can, despite the complete lack of English!

LIVEABOARD/SMALL ISLAND TOUR

DAY 8

Today we will begin our liveaboard/small island tour by boarding a boat in the port of Labaun Bajo. We will travel to Komodo National Park and enjoy a trek through bushland on the lookout for Komodo Dragons. We will have an opportunity to observe Komodo Dragons in their natural environment, along with a wide range of other local animals including buffaloes, deer, horses, wild boar, and monkeys.

DAY 9

We will begin our adventures by visiting Manta Point where we will enjoy a swim with the incredible Manta Rays, before continuing on to swim and snorkel at the stunning Pink Beach and trek the island of Laba and enjoy stunning views over the islands of Indonesia.

DAY 10

Today we visit Gili Bola where we will enjoy snorkelling and a walk through the beautiful island to Moyo Waterfall, otherwise known as a “sticky waterfall”. We will enjoy a climb to the top of this remarkable location and a short swim in the cool waters of the waterfalls before returning to our boat.

DAY 11

We begin the morning with a pancake breakfast before a swim or snorkel. We then arrive in Lombok and transfer to the beautiful island of Gili Air, a quaint little island where Guests will enjoy the slow pace of life, free of motorized vehicles. The island is tiny, so travel by foot is easy, however bicycles are very popular along with the local horse and carriage service. Guests will have an afternoon of relaxation and enjoy a hot shower and air-conditioning.

DAY 12

Today is a day of pure relaxation. Guests will have the entire day to do as they wish and a wonderful opportunity to explore Gili Air. Visit local markets, hire bicycles to travel around the island, enjoy a delicious meal in a local restaurant or relax with a wonderful massage at a fraction of the cost you would pay elsewhere.

DAY 13

After a delicious breakfast, Guests will stroll to the local beach and board a boat, ready for a day of snorkelling. Visit the underwater statues, snorkel with sea turtles and enjoy a lovely relaxing day out on the water. In the middle of the day we will stop at another of the 3 local islands and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the evening we will enjoy a final farewell dinner before our departure the next day.

DAY 14

They say all good things must come to an end, and sadly on Day 14 this will be true of our Komodo trip. Guests will enjoy their breakfast before checking out and making their way to the Port to board their fast boat back to Bali. Some Guests may wish to remain on Gili Air for a little longer – return tickets can be used on any day, so please let us know if this is something we can help you with.
